Lot 3095
Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 19 mm, 2.88 g, 11 h), Rome, circa 320. CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to right. Rev. VIRTV-S AVGG / P - R / [R] Q Campgate with closed doors and three turrets. RIC 183. Somewhat rough and with light cleaning scratches, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

An interesting detail on this coin is the circle on the front of each turret, possibly a wreath. It is exceedingly rare to see decorations on the gate turrets, with the eagles on the argentei from Nicomedia (RIC VI 21-22) forming a notable exception.
